The Kentucky Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (KY-ACC) is dedicated to supporting women in the field of cardiology by providing valuable resources, networking opportunities, and professional development programs. We recognize the unique challenges faced by women in this specialty and are committed to fostering a supportive community that encourages growth and success. This year's event will be held at Hotel 21C, 167 West Main Street, Lexington, KY on April 11.

Speaker Highlight

Rhea Sancassani, MD, FACC
Medical Director of Jackson Medical Group Cardiology

Rhea Sancassani, MD, FACC is the Medical Director of Jackson Medical Group Cardiology and an Affiliated Assistant Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Medical Education at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She is a board-certified cardiologist and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology with clinical and academic interests focused on cardiovascular disease prevention, patient-centered care, and medical education.

Dr. Sancassani is actively involved in professional leadership and advocacy. She currently serves as Chair of the Women in Cardiology Committee for the Florida Chapter of the American College of Cardiology, where she works to advance mentorship, professional development, and leadership opportunities for women in cardiovascular medicine. Through her clinical practice, teaching, and leadership roles, she is committed to improving cardiovascular outcomes and supporting the next generation of physicians.

Objectives:

  1. Enumerate traditional and sex-specific risk factors for cardiovascular disease in women across their lifespan
  2. Highlight emerging and early screening strategies for coronary artery disease and their role in personalized prevention
  3. Explain how personal experiences with cardiovascular risk can inspire leadership, mentorship, and advocacy through the American College of Cardiology Women in Cardiology community.
