Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the proposed American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine (ABCVM) and our Board of Directors, I wanted to provide an update on the status of our application for a new cardiovascular board.
As of today, we are still awaiting a final decision from the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) regarding our proposal. We remain steadfast in our belief that we have met all the necessary requirements for an independent board and continue to advocate for a certification process that reflects the unique needs of cardiovascular clinicians.
We understand that many of you are eager for further updates, and we assure you that as soon as a decision is reached, we will communicate the outcome as quickly and transparently as possible. We also ask for your patience as we will need to work through the details and timelines that will follow any final determination.
The vision for the proposed ABCVM remains clear: to establish a certification program that emphasizes continuous learning and competency-based assessment. This innovative approach will empower physicians with personalized learning tools, recognize their ongoing commitment to professional development, and ultimately elevate the quality of care provided to patients. You can learn more about our early plans at CVBoard.org, where you will find our latest webinar, as well as answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.
For now, we strongly urge all cardiovascular physicians to maintain their certification through the currently approved pathways, including the Collaborative Maintenance Pathway (CMP), the 10-year examinations, and the Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment (LKA). These avenues remain the best way to ensure continued professional standing and uninterrupted certification while we await further developments.
We deeply appreciate your continued support and patience as we navigate this process. Your engagement is crucial in shaping the future of cardiovascular certification, and we remain committed to keeping you informed every step of the way.
Thank you for your dedication to cardiovascular medicine and your ongoing trust in this effort.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Kuvin, MD
Chair, ABCVM Board of Directors
