Advocacy Update

As 2017 draws to a close our Public Policy team is looking forward to the 2018 session of the Kentucky General Assembly. With comprehensive tax reform on the agenda, KY-ACC has partnered with the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky and the rest of the Coalition for a Smoke-Free Tomorrow to advocate for at least a $1.00 increase in the tobacco tax. Any less than that will not have the necessary substantial positive impact on health outcomes for Kentuckians by reducing smoking rates amongst the most vulnerable populations.

Given the legislature’s history with other tobacco measures we acknowledge that this will be a substantial ask, especially with the background of the need for Kentucky to pass a budget and to address pension reform. That is why we are asking you to Save the Date for a visit to Frankfort. We are happy to partner with both the Kentucky Division of the American Heart Association and the Kentucky Medical Association for their respective Lobby Days in Frankfort.
